The VTP Poppet Valve with SXH / SXD actuator assembly is assessed and certified for use within safety‑related applications in accordance with IEC 61508.
It is suitable for use as a final control element in low‑demand Safety Instrumented Functions (SIFs), supporting reliable isolation and control of pneumatic energy.
IEC 61508 SIL‑Certified Final Element
The VTP Poppet Valve has been independently assessed for Safety Integrity Level (SIL) capability in accordance with IEC 61508, covering hardware reliability, architectural constraints and systematic capability. The assessment confirms suitability for use as a final element subsystem within a Safety Instrumented Function.
Low‑Demand Safety Applications
The certification applies to low‑demand mode safety functions, where the valve is required to operate infrequently but must perform reliably on demand. Both De‑Energise To Trip (DETT) and Energise To Trip (ETT) modes have been assessed as part of the SIL evaluation.
Capable Up to SIL 3 at Subsystem Level
The VTP Poppet Valve with SXH / SXD actuator assembly is considered capable for use in safety functions up to SIL 3, subject to system‑level verification of the complete SIF architecture. Final SIL performance depends on the integration of sensors, logic solvers, proof test intervals and diagnostic coverage.
Defined Safe Behaviour
In response to a safety demand, the valve transitions to a defined safe state, closing to isolate the pneumatic supply and enabling downstream pressure to be safely vented as required by the application design.
System Integration and Validation
To achieve the required Safety Integrity Level:
- The complete Safety Instrumented Function must be validated
- Response time must be verified against process safety time
- Proof testing and maintenance must align with the Safety Manual
These activities are essential to confirm compliance with IEC 61508 at the system level.
