2oo3 Modular Redundant Control System 2oo3 voting system for both the energising and de-energising signals The MRCS removes the need to rely on just one solenoid valve to open or close the process valve. Compatiable with all hazardous area solenoids.

Datasheet
  • Compact manifold designs
  • Interchangeable CNOMO interface coil units, including various hazardous area options
  • Solenoid Operator: SIL 2 on energising, SIL 3 on de-energising
  • ATEX, IECEx and CCCEx coil certification
  • Individual pneumatic visual indication for each solenoid as well as for the input to and output from the whole system. This allows for visual verification that the whole assembly is working as required and full visual diagnostic of the manifold to identify which solenoid requires maintenance, should a fault ever occur.
  • Individual solenoid isolation. This allows any single solenoid to be isolated for service/replacement while the other solenoids can continue to operate normally, which means that the solenoids can be maintained without taking the whole manifold system out of service.

2OO3 & 3OO4 MRCS

Compact pneumatic solenoid valve manifold systems designed for use in applications where very high reliability and availability is required. These manifolds embed a “two out of three” (2oo3) or “three out of four” (3oo4) voting system for both the energising and de-energising signals. Manifold material available in Aluminium or 316 Stainless Steel.

Also known as Redundant Valve Manifold (RVM).

2oo3 Modular Redundant Control System

Product Overview

The ROSS Pneumatrol 2oo3 Modular Redundant Control System is a safety-critical pneumatic control solution designed to provide reliable voting logic for process shutdown and control applications.

The system uses a Two Out of Three (2oo3) architecture, requiring agreement from two independent channels before a control action is initiated. This approach improves fault tolerance while reducing the risk of unwanted shutdowns caused by a single device fault.

Manufacturer: ROSS Pneumatrol
Product Type: Modular Redundant Control System
Voting Logic: 2oo3 (Two Out of Three)
Application: Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and Process Safety Applications

What is 2oo3 Voting?

A 2oo3 system uses three independent control channels to monitor a process condition.

For a control action to occur:

  • Two of the three channels must agree
  • A single fault can be tolerated without loss of functionality
  • The risk of spurious trips is significantly reduced
  • System availability can be improved whilst maintaining safety integrity

This voting philosophy is widely used in safety-critical applications where both reliability and operational continuity are essential.

Key Features

  • Modular redundant control architecture
  • Two Out of Three (2oo3) voting logic
  • Suitable for energising and de-energising safety functions
  • Fault tolerant system design
  • Supports increased operational availability
  • Helps minimise nuisance shutdowns
  • Designed for Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
  • Suitable for critical actuator and valve control applications
  • Robust industrial construction

Applications

The 2oo3 Modular Redundant Control System is suitable for:

  • Emergency Shutdown (ESD) systems
  • Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
  • Safety Instrumented Functions (SIF)
  • Process shutdown systems
  • Critical valve automation
  • Onshore and offshore oil & gas installations
  • Chemical processing plants
  • Petrochemical facilities
  • Power generation systems
  • Energy infrastructure

Product Benefits

Improved Safety Integrity

Multiple voting channels provide enhanced confidence that shutdown actions occur only when genuinely required.

Fault Tolerant Operation

The architecture allows the system to continue operating safely even if a single channel develops a fault.

Reduced Nuisance Trips

By requiring agreement from two independent channels, the risk of unnecessary process shutdowns can be significantly reduced.

Enhanced Process Availability

Improved fault tolerance helps maximise uptime whilst maintaining compliance with process safety requirements.

Modular Design

The modular construction simplifies maintenance, inspection and future system expansion while supporting standardisation across safety systems.

Typical Process Safety Applications

The 2oo3 voting system is commonly used in:

  • High Integrity Pressure Protection Systems (HIPPS)
  • Emergency shutdown valve systems
  • Burner management systems
  • Pipeline isolation systems
  • Critical process control loops
  • Hazardous area automation systems
  • Process plant safety systems

Industries Served

  • Oil & Gas
  • Petrochemical Processing
